About the Partnership

2020 - Present

Giving Gap started strong. Their mission to advance racial equity through philanthropy quickly garnered major funding and press coverage, establishing them as leaders in their space. As their momentum shifted online, strengthening their digital strategy became essential for continued growth.

Our first tasks with Giving Gap focused on key priorities: creating a platform with clear pathways to connect donors with Black-founded nonprofits, while also spotlighting those organizations within a growing directory. The newly launched site had immediate impacts—doubling engagement and advancing their cause. But the work didn't stop there.

As Giving Gap gained even more traction, they sought greater self-sufficiency, as some of their existing operational tools were limiting their ability to scale. To support this, we designed and developed custom solutions—including a CMS, dashboard, and reporting system—streamlining data management and giving them more control over the pace of decision-making and growth trajectories.

Today, our partnership continues as Giving Gap takes bigger strides in redefining the philanthropic landscape. Together, we're amplifying their advocacy by extending their message beyond the website and across digital touchpoints.

Creating an Organization Dashboard

As Giving Gap welcomed a surge of registering organizations, their existing CMS became a bottleneck. It lacked the flexibility they needed to scale efficiently.

To solve this, we designed and built a custom dashboard, with new features to improve their operational uptime, including migrating to a relational database to support growing data fields, redefining the UI/UX to ease team members' navigation and task-completion, and implementing automated workflows to accelerate reporting.

Packaging the Platform

Joining Giving Gap during their rebrand, collaborating with Work & Co. and Microsoft, we were first tasked with implementing new brand assets across the platform.

As our partnership evolved, so did our scope of work. We moved beyond just brand implementation and into defining the brand experience as a whole. By introducing customized systems—including a CMS, analytics tracking, and additional site sections—we helped make the Giving Gap platform even more visible, interactive, and distinct.

Designing and Promoting Initiatives

From donor education to in-house events and campaigns, Giving Gap's initiatives play a vital role in driving awareness. But without a strong social media presence or dedicated space on their site, these efforts risked going unseen.

Through close collaboration on strategy and design, we helped Giving Gap extend their visual direction across high-traffic digital touchpoints, boosting engagement beyond direct searches and making their advocacy just as visible as their directory.
