About the Partnership

2024 - Present

As a subsidiary of Kaplan Inc., i-Human Patients is a trusted platform that delivers case-based diagnostic simulations for medical education. With the industry rapidly evolving, they sought to modernize both their product experience and its underlying system.

The first and most major updates were made to their backend. We implemented automations, scalable workflows, and flexible deployment strategies to minimize the risks of their highly manual process, improving i-Human Patients’ capacity for new feature rollouts and platform updates.

Next, we turned to their case creation interface, the Authoring Worksheet. Our design and development team collaborated closely with i-Human Patients stakeholders to redesign its UI, reducing friction for content authors and significantly increasing case output.

Overall, i‑Human Patients is now supported by a more efficient codebase. Their accelerated processes allows them to connect educators with students more effectively and at scale.

Infrastructure Upgrade

As i-Human Patients’ user base and platform demands grew, their existing infrastructure struggled to keep pace. Manual setup and processes increased operational overheads and created risks of service disruptions during deployments.

To address this pain point, we automated infrastructure management, implemented containerized environments, and introduced resilient deployment processes—including instant rollback capabilities and a multi-region disaster recovery plan.

These changes enhanced system reliability and continue to support i-Human Patients’ ability to deliver new features while maintaining a seamless user experience at scale.

Authoring Worksheet

Limited by its complex UI, i-Human Patients’ Authoring Worksheet allowed for only one or two case creations per month. Considering their value proposition, this was problematic for stakeholders by and large.

Because this process depends on author initiative, we focused the redesign on streamlining the author experience by unifying data fields and emphasizing user-friendly, intuitive steps. The updated interface resulted in greater author engagement, faster case production, and a more expansive case library that also drove increased student completion rates.
